Eid ul-Fitr 2011

Eid ul-Fitr (usually abbreviated to Eid) means ‘festival’ or ‘festivity’ in Arabic. It is a Muslim holiday that signifies the end of Ramadan which this year began on the 1st August. Ramadan is the Islamic holy month of fasting so the end of a whole month of fasting is cause for much celebration!

La Tomatina, Spain

La Tomatina is held this year on Wednesday 31st August 2011 and is said to be the world’s biggest and most outrageous food fight! Using over-ripe tomatoes, thousands take to the streets and throw tomatoes at anyone and everyone in this tomato festival on the last Wednesday in August each year in a town called Buñol in Valencia, Spain.
