Happy Christmas! Feliz Navidad! Joyeux Noel! Shub Naya Baras!

Christmas is a Christian religious ceremony which is generally celebrated every year on 25 December.  It commemorates the birth or Nativity of Jesus of Nazareth and is celebrated mainly by Christians, although it has become popular with non-Christians as a secular cultural festival.   The birth is remembered with religious festivities and recreations of the Nativity, which is re-enacted by children at school nativity plays. Christmas Day is an official national holiday in most Western countries.

Family gatherings around the world involve feasting and gift & card giving.  Over the centuries, Western cultures have embraced the idea of gift giving to friends and family to an unprecedented level, with the run up to Christmas boosting the sales of retailers.

Christmas decorations range from Christmas trees covered in tinsel and baubles, to decorating the inside of your house with holly and lights. In Australia and North & South America, Christmas lights are also used to decorate the outside of the house which can sometimes become an attraction in itself!

In much of Europe Christmas celebrations start on 24 December. In Armenia it is celebrated on 6 January, and on 7 January in Russia.
