FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009

The FIFA Confederations Cup is being held in various towns and cities in South Africa, including Pretoria and Johannesburg. It will take place from the 14th-28th June 2009.   International teams playing this year include Brazil, Spain, Italy, USA, Egypt and South Africa. Football fans will join the already football-mad South Africans for what will be a truly international event. The tournament will pave the way for next year’s 2010 FIFA World Cup, which will also be held in South Africa.

Did you know there are 11 official languages in South Africa? They are recognised to be Afrikaans, English, Ndebele (isiNdebele), Northern Sotho (Sesotho sa Leboa), Sotho (seSotho), Swati (siSwati), Tsonga (Xitsonga), Tswana (Setswana), Venda (Tshivenda), Xhosa (isiXhosa) and Zulu (isiZulu). Zulu is the most spoken official language in South Africa, but many South Africans are trilingual, speaking Afrikaans, English and another of the official languages.
