by BBC Languages has revealed that 50% of people cite lack of time
as the reason for giving up learning a foreign language, which is
why we have devised a new series of audio CDs and cassettes - Quickstart
- designed specifically for those of you who don't have much time
on your hands!
Quickstart is
particularly aimed at the growing number of people going away on
weekend or short European breaks who want to grasp the basics of
the language beforehand, without having to master any complicated
grammar or phrases. Retailing at £12.99, Quickstart is available
in French, German, Spanish and Italian - the languages of British
holidaymakers' favourite weekend city break destinations - and follows
three friends around Nice, Hamburg, Barcelona and Turin respectively.

For example,
in Quickstart French, we join Rachida, Thierry and Luc for their
24-hour stay in Nice. The friends' conversations introduce us, via
14 structured episodes, to a range of especially-selected potential
weekend break scenarios, including checking in at the airport; finding
a place to stay; seeing the town and asking for directions; ordering
in restaurants and bars; shopping; and enjoying the nightlife.
Quickstart concentrates
only on the essential language required for a short break abroad,
breaking it down into short, relevant, easy to learn categories.
Each section allows you time to listen to the conversations,
time to reflect with a step-by-step explanation of the dialogue,
time to kickstart which lets you practise your pronunciation
