China Golden Week Creates Gridlock … And Revenue

China celebrates Golden Week this week whereby 1.3 billion people are given eight consecutive days off work. Golden Week is the name given to a semi-annual 7 day National Holiday started in 2000. It is an unusually long break this year as the Golden Week concides with the Mid-Autumn Festival which is a popular lunar harvest festival celebrating the end of the fall harvest.  However, 1.3 billion people all having time off at the same time creates massive gridlock in many regions in China. On the flipside, revenue at tourist sites and for other consumer spending, increases during the break.
